Beaches in Barcelona

Beaches in Barcelona,

Besides the cultural attractions Barcelona offers a really nice beach scene. There are beaches for everyone. Playgrounds for kids, access for people with disabilities and beachside bars and the restaurants.

There are six different beaches, they are called: Playa de la Barceloneta, Playa de la Nova Icària, Playa del Bogatell, Playa de la Mar Bella, Playa de Sant Sebastià and Playa de la Nova Mar Bella.

Playa de Sant Sebastiá is located next to the industrial dock and is the furthest to the left on the map.

Barceloneta beach is the most popular one and the closest to the city centre. You can go easily by metro to the metro stop Barceloneta on the yellow line, or walk. If you’re walking from La Rambla, you walk to Colom at the end and you take the left side. Then it is about 15 minutes walking. Barceloneta beach has many great sea food restaurants serving fresh fish. Along the beach runs a walkway full of bars and restaurants that are busy serving the tourists and locals during the day and the lounge seekers in the evening. People enjoy beach sports like windsurfing, kayaking, waterskiing, surfing and sailing. If it gets to busy in the high season you can try the next beach called Icaria Beach.

Playa de la Nova Icária is close to Port Olympic and also has small bars and restaurants that run along the beach. At night this beach is very popular under the hip young locals. A great party scene. This beach is not as ideal for families or spending a day on the sand though volley ball is very popular.

Playa del Bogatell is next to the Port Olympic Marina and is less commercial but a really nice beach to go. Playa de la Mar Bella is also very popular for beach sports and also offers beachside bars and restaurants. Playa de la Nova Mar Bella is the final beach on Barcelona’s stretch of coast and has good access for people with disabilities.

The beaches are cleaned up and renovated for the 1992 Olympic summer games. That’s why the beaches have access to people with disabilities. Most of the beach areas have lifeguards and red cross stations in the summer. They offer a beautiful place to relaxed with friends and love ones as well during the winter. The bars and restaurants are open from the morning until late in the night. During the day you can sip some sangria and take tapas or take advantage of the sea sports. When the evening comes you have to get ready for Barcelona’s famous hip, lounge scene at night.
